Fibroids

What are Fibroids?

Uterine fibroids are benign tumors or growths that grow within the wall of the uterus. Fibroids can develop as a single growth or in clusters and can vary from the size of an apple seed to larger than a grapefruit.

Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumors in women of childbearing age, but no one knows exactly what causes them. They can be frustrating to live with as symptoms may affect quality of life.  Not all women with fibroids have symptoms, but some may have pelvic pain or heavy menstrual bleeding.  Fibroids also can put pressure on the bladder, causing frequent urination.

How are Fibroids Treated?

There are several treatment options available, both surgical and non-surgical. Your doctor will help you decide which one is right for you.
