
Hospital Surgery & daVinci Surgery1. Our office will pre-certify your surgery with your insurance carrier. Please check with your insurance carrier to verify coverage, co-pays, and benefits for doctor, hospital and anesthesiologist's fees. You will need to verify the need for pre-certification and/or a second opinion. 2. Pre-procedure planning at Spectrum Health will call you a few days prior to surgery. They will review your medical history, medications, insurance information and give a definite time for hospital arrival, and any final directions. You may be required to have blood test, urinalysis, EKG or x-rays. If they have not reached your one or two days before surgery, please call them: (616) 643-9520 or 1-800-806-7412 and leave a number where you can be reached. 3. Nothing to eat or drink from midnight the night before the surgery. If your surgery is scheduled for the afternoon, clear liquids (water, broth, plain jell-o, 7-up, ginger ale, apple juice, coffee or tea without milk) are allowed in the morning only as advised by the pre-procedure planning nurse. 4. Avoid any ibuprofen aspirin and vitamin E products for one week and any herbal products for two weeks prior to surgery. 5. Please arrive at the hospital two hours prior to your scheduled surgery for necessary preparations and to meet the anesthesiologist. 6. Parking: The pre-procedure nurse will tell you where to park when she contacts you prior to surgery. 7. After surgery you will be monitored in the recovery room for a period of time. If your procedure was done as an outpatient, you will return to the 2nd floor before going home. Family members can wait with you. If you are to be admitted, you will be taken to your inpatient hospital room at this time. 8. You cannot drive yourself home after the surgery. Arrangements for transportation after discharge must be made. 9. Call the office to schedule your post-op appointment with your doctor if one is not already scheduled.
